Solutions

1. Answer: C Cast a shadow is a phrase means to spoil a good situation with something unpleasant. Here, China is spoiling the situation. Sentence is given in present tense and china still making situation worse thus casting a shadow is used So, we can cancel all the other options. Hence, the best answer would be to mark option (c) as the answer.

2. Answer: B , words in (a) and (d) cannot be taken for the blank as, we need a gerund here so they do not fit grammatically. Enhance means to improve which could have been correct had it been given in the gerund form. Circumvent means to avoid makes no sense here prolong means to make something last longer out of context. Thee correct word is boosting which means to improve the value or strength of something.

3. Answer: E The words given in all the options above are synonyms which mean to highlight on something or emphasize something. In the sentence given above, the minister is emphasizing or stressing on the point that India wants better bilateral ties in the region. So, the best is to go with option (e).

4. Answer: D The word prohibit which means disallow or block something so it is the correct usage in the given context. The paragraph discusses the way in which China is breaching the age-old agreements. Help, Authorize and Permit would go opposite to the context of the sentence with the blank thus these can be ruled out. Veil is to cover or hide. This makes no sense in the given context and can be eliminated. Thus, the best is to go with option (e).

5. Answer: CThe word resolved fits best because the line talks about an incident happened years ago that has still not been solved and as a result of which the phrase ‘casting a shadow’ has been used in the line which indicates that something unpleasant is being mentioned.Unravel and clarify are grammatically incorrect and can be eliminated. solve is given in present form we need v3 here .Resolved is correct answer.

6. Replace”effect ” with ‘affect’ . Error is in part b effect is a noun mean result or outcome of an action while affect is a verb meaning have an impact on something.

7. Use of is with since is incorrect. When referring to point of time like Nov 26 has been should be used. Has been on a hunger strike is correct.

8. NO ERROR.

9. Better is already a comparative degree of with so more better is wrong . It should be much better to show situation is better in delhi than its nearby cities.

10. Date before is wrong. Correct phrase is date back to “to refer to a time in the past”
